I had an allergic reaction this week.,my face swelled terribly, both eyes, my top lip, top of my mouth,
I got so much sympathy when it was not painful,

Yet I’ve suffered mentally for a few years. And nobody ever asks about that.

it actually makes me mad.

Well, that's because this is new, novel and very obvious.
If you had a chronic physical illness I can assure you noone would ask about that either - it's the status quo for them and not remarkable.
That's my experience anyway x

If someone came up to you and said "you look perfectly OK, are you mentally ill?" you'd probably either be majorly pissed off or think that they were weird. Or both.
