What’s the bloody point

I’ve not got anyone in my life that gives a damn about me and there is no point to life Are we obligated to stay alive if we have dc? Can I just “hold out” until they turn 18 or am I expected to suffer until I cark it by natural causes?
NB - I’m safe at the moment and not in any immediate danger

I’m sorry you feel this way. I think you need to discuss this with your GP or a mental health professional.

Eyesopenwideawake · 06/01/2026 13:41

Don't you give a damn about you?

When did you last care about yourself, or anyone else?

Honestly, I think we are, yes. For almost a decade ( and ongoing) I have felt like you. Feel trapped, ashamed bur keep on because I have kids. I do feel trapped in life because of them. My life is about to take a terrifying turn for the worst too. Like my worst nightmare about to become real life. I’d love to escape it but can’t. But none of this is the kids responsibility. I have to keep on because I had them, so it’s on me.

@Eyesopenwideawake mid last year. Found a psychologist and thought things were going ok but my case was too complex so I was ditched.
constant issues with dc too so just utterly overwhelmed. Not really sure what the point in it all is

@Colderthanwarm sorry to hear that you’ve also been struggling for so long. Really hoping that your worst fear is not going to come true and if it does you somehow find the inner strength to face it all 💐

That was very unprofessional of them. What changes in you would make a difference?

Thanks. That means a lot. I am sorry to hear about your psychologist. I know only to well how it feels when you find something that you think is making a difference or going to, and then is disappears or comes to nothing.

FWIW, your post to me was kind and so I give a damn about you. I'm really sorry you have a life that grinds you down. I hope one day things can get easier for you.

Messingwithmyheadagain · 06/09/2026 16:41

I’d love to say things have improved since I first started the thread but if anything I’m feeling more despair now than ever. Struggling with one of the DC’s additional needs and don’t have anyone to share the burden. It just seems to be one bloody thing after another and I’m exhausted and overwhelmed. Appt after appt for them, I don’t feel I can come up for air.
Paid for some work to get done at home and a botch job doesn’t even come close. Tried to get things a bit better and it’s all backfired

Anyone?

It sounds so horrendously difficult for you OP. Are you getting any support with medication or therapy atm? I’m not sure what to suggest but maybe you could try to put some treats in place to give you a little comfort or pleasure? Book a massage or other beauty treatment to have something positive to look forward to or buy your favourite food as it seems that everything is focused on your DC needs. This sounds pointless but I have found listing 5 things I am grateful for at the end of each day. It can be really small things especially when life is really tough such as seeing a friendly dog or a pretty flower.
Also, make sure you are not being hard on yourself as you should be proud of the way you are keeping going when things are so tough.
Sorry if this all sounds trite but I don’t have any magic solutions so anything that can make life a little more bearable is a step in the right direction.

Messingwithmyheadagain · 07/09/2026 14:42

@FrankieZebra thanks for taking the time to reply, it was very much appreciated. I’ve had meds in the past but not really made a difference. I can only afford periodic therapy and have an appt in the coming weeks. I am safe but bloody heck it’s hard.
