My son is 24,a good lad who works hard and is never in any trouble.but he can't make friends and will often tell me how lonely he is.It makes me sad because he is such a lovely person who will help anyone who asks.he's struggling with his mental health big time at the moment because of this and as much as I tell him im here for him I guess it's not the same as having friends to talk to.im sure there's other mums out there in my position so any advice would be lovely.

That's hard for you both, OP.

Did he make friends at school or has this always been hard for him?

Meanwhile getting out and doing activities alongside others is important, @ThatPinkViper. Then he's getting low-key social interaction which may turn into friendships in time, but is important for mental health and developing social skills anyway. The helpful thing is that everyone there will share an interest so they have a something in common to start with.
