Small joys

I just wanted to create a place where people can share their small (or large) joys and/or accomplishments whilst struggling allot.
I don’t really know why, I guess the connection aspect of sharing and gaining ideas for other small joys that I and others might find in each others posts! And acknowledgement out loud that even when things are heavy and hard, there can still be small joys.
My small joys so far today are that I bought myself a needoh ice cube online which was delivered today!
I also had lunch which will mean two propper meals today! (I always have dinner) and it was really yummy, I had my favourite roll with ham, cucumber and mayonnaise in it and some garlic stuffed olives with a cup of coffee. I guess that’s an accomplishment for today too!

Great idea for an uplifting thread.
I managed to get out of bed to go for lunch and a lovely snowy walk along the river. That’s an improvement on yesterday when I only made it out of bed as far as the sofa.

Itwasthereallalong · 05/01/2026 19:33

That sounds lovely! A flask of hot chocolate would be the perfect company for that walk 😅 and even the sofa is better than the bed! Well done for both days 🥰

What a great post - small wins are still wins and a step in the right direction x
I tried a dance class today - rather than just using gym equipment . It was tricky keeping up but glad I did it .
I also made some soup - I did some last week using left over veg and today I tried a a different version - was tasty . Cheap too

buggermewhatnext · 05/01/2026 22:58

I had a really relaxing evening - cosy and warm in my house . Enjoyed some lovely chocolate biscuits and am now reading in warm bed. Small wins

ChinFluff46 · 05/01/2026 23:43

I'd love a small wins thread especially in January. Hopefully can help me gain momentum like snowball.

It was first day back at work today and it wasn't too bad. That's my win. Plus am in bed before midnight which feels really nice.

Lifeonapigfarm · 06/01/2026 00:54

I'm in bed before 1am and am turning my light off so will get some rest. This is a great thread.

Itwasthereallalong · 06/01/2026 18:36

@Jenkibubble that sounds like a super productive day! What dance style was it? @buggermewhatnext that sounds really lovely, still eating through Christmas goodies here too!
@ChinFluff46 brill! I hope today has been just as ok!
@Lifeonapigfarm nice one! I always struggle to sleep at the correct times but rarely actually turn all noise off so I should take note!
My small joy today is my favourite cereal and milk combo for dinner that I’m just about to choose a film to watch with. My little win today was that I managed to get a parcel sent back for a refund instead of letting it sit there until the date passed and missing the refund!

My small joy’s today - doing something at work small thing but I think I really helped someone they seemed thankful and it lifted me a bit. Petting someone’s dog 🐕. Another small joy.
Looking forward to a day off tomorrow and reading my book tonight all small joys

Sunshineismyfavourite · 06/01/2026 19:55

A small win for me is driving into work, when I might not actually feel like going in - to be treated to a beautiful orange sunrise in front of me as I'm driving up a specific road. Always brings me joy.

Taking a hot water bottle to bed and warming the bottom bit of my pillow so it's cosy when I get in. Then I move it down to my feet. Especially welcome at the moment!

Starting a new book. I read lots, every day, and I love the anticipation of starting a new book and meeting new characters that I connect with.

Great thread! I have depression and anxiety which is reasonably controlled. I also have disabilities that affect my mobility and pain is an every day thing, lethargy is debilitating, but I’m coming to terms with this and the depression / MH issues are lifting a little.
So, today me and DH pulled out our bed and bed side chests of drawers (all stupidly heavy that DH had to move!) He hoovered and cleaned down all of the woodwork so the dust is all gone (it’s been literally 3 years … I know … I just can’t function when I work full time with anything else, especially with 2 autistic teens … anyway, it’s great). I tidied and dusted my personal products (face creams, perfumes, medications etc) boxed things into nice containers so they’re easy to keep tidy, and found a few things I’d ’lost’ Too lol

Cleaner coming tomorrow ( weekly) and I feel happy enough for her to hoover the rest of our bedroom now - I feel very contented with my efforts today!
I have to say DH has been amazing since my diagnosis, and when I was in limbo wondering WTF was wrong with me. He’s supported me though many blood tests, MRI, x rays amongst many hospital appointments, he does most of the cooking and shopping which I always did, as well as my share of the house work, so he’s working like a trooper! I feel we’re starting to get a bit more control in our lives

Yesterday I really really wanted to sit in the warm with only the TV for company but instead I took my daughter out to enjoy the snow for a bit. She was so happy playing and I took a conscious moment to think “that’s because of me, I made her that happy” and it really really helped my mood.

Jenkibubble · 06/01/2026 20:25

@Itwasthereallalong it was a variety of waltz , rumba , salsa and some others

I resonate with the anticipation of a new book .i love discovering a new author I enjoy too !
Thank goodness for libraries - I’d be lost without one

Becky3825 · 07/01/2026 10:38

Small win today was getting out of the house early to get food for the kids, and the cats!

Itwasthereallalong · 07/01/2026 17:36

@buggermewhatnext its always the best joy when you help someone else isn’t it?! Had to work hard on people pleasing vs genuinely loving helping people and where that line is! How has your day off today been? I hope you’ve managed to find some small joys in it ✨
@Sunshineismyfavourite your joys are beautiful 🥰 I love the sun, and the moon (and stars!) you’ve also reminded me to use my hot water bottle! (I’ve been using my electric blanket so far!) hmmmm actually…. Maybe not such a clever mix 🥴 do you only read fiction? Or a mix? I am going to try and read more this year. I buy allot of books but then just kind of… collect them 😳 but I do want to read them! I just need to actually do it!
@chunkyBoo it must feel great to have those jobs done now! And a lovely relief that things will be able to remain at a manageable level from now on 🥰 and your husband sounds like a brilliant human! I hope you continue to find your comfortable “new” new ✨
@FusionChefGeoff that’s a big joy I’d say! 🥰 you sound like a brilliant parent and I’m glad you both got to enjoy the snow together! ⛄️
@Jenkibubble that sounds brilliant! Well done too, I can’t even dance in a straight line with any co ordination 🤣
@Becky3825 thats a brilliant win! Well done 🥰

My small joys today have been not having to wake up to an alarm, having somebody call me as a safe person to talk to when feeling anxious, it felt great that they chose to trust me to be there for them 🧡 and an upcoming one that I just KNOW will be a joy is eating the proper home cooked dinner I’ve made for this evening in my fleecey pjs!
My small wins (although not actually small to me), are that I’ve cooked a home cooked from scratch dinner and I’ve un-decorated the Christmas tree and decorations. I still have to take the tree itself down but I’m going to chop it carefully as I’d like to use the pine needles as a mulch for my blueberry bushes as they are a great slow fertiliser for them with them needing more acidic soil! Another small win….. actually feeling joy about the garden again! I’ve not felt that for months and months and I’ve just felt it!

Hi
itwasrealallalong yes it really is good when you feel you have helped someone it lifts you up a bit.
Today small wins are a lovely day off from work, time to practice a new skill and having a quick call from a friend only small things but they did me some good today.
Hope the rest of you are all getting small wins. This is little a little therapy group :-)

Sunshineismyfavourite · 07/01/2026 19:25

@Itwasthereallalong

I read mostly fiction actually though I do love poetry too. I read academic books for my job but love to switch off - something like Mhairi McFarlane, who I'm reading at the moment and Ruth Jones from Gavin & Stacey fame who has written two beautiful novels that I loved and have just finished.

My small wins today were a lovely lunch with a friend catching up on our family Christmas news. And the fact that it was above 0 degrees when I got into my car this morning!

Interesting to think of using the pine needles on the garden. Will have to try that!

Becky3825 · 07/01/2026 19:41

Love this thread and going to come back to it every evening after my day. Thank you so much @Itwasthereallalong for starting it and loved your post today 💜

I've just started Propranolol on top of the fluoxetine i've been takikg for a few years. I am hoping that is going to help the hole I feel I am in currently again.

I managed to 'adult' today genrally and did house chores, got all 4 kids fed and watered and off to school. Managed a nap on the sofa when feeling really hopeless and depressed around midday.

Me and my family are safe and well and I am so grateful for that. I am so fortunate and need to keep focusing on this

buggermewhatnext · 08/01/2026 21:57

Small wins for today were being in my lovely warm house cosseted from the cold outside, doing some yoga only 15 mins but enjoyable. Eating chocolate biscuits with a nice cuppa. What’s everyone else’s small joys of the day

Itwasthereallalong · 09/01/2026 01:10

Small joy today has been all of the cat cuddles.
Small win today is that I didn’t spend all day in bed.

Small wins for today
managed to go to work in the snow.
For a while at least could feel myself relaxing and almost enjoying self
Did some exercise this evening .
small things but have enhanced my day

FamilynotMaiden · 09/01/2026 22:58

All three of my children (18, 15 and 5) will be with me for the afternoon tomorrow and I will feel like a mum again ❤️ 💙 💜

Itwasthereallalong · 10/01/2026 13:31

@buggermewhatnext I’m glad you enjoyed the snow! Was hoping it’d make its way here but we just had a bit of rain! 😅 well done on the exercise too! I keep telling myself that I MUST start some daily exercise but still the motivation eludes me! Maybe today will be the day!
@FamilynotMaiden I don’t know you but I’m so happy and slightly emotional for you reading this ❤️ I hope you all have a fabulous warm and loving afternoon together ❤️

Small joys for today so far is the lovely hot bath I’m in accompanied by a hot thermos of tea (yes I plan to spend that long in here). God knows I needed it! 😅
My other small joy is that my weed membrane and chicken manure pellets have been delivered this morning so once I can hype myself up enough to get out there…. I can de-jungleify my little garden and prepare the beds and pots for crops and flowers this year! It’s just the hype I need. Wish I could get some of that on order too, If anyone wants to give me a virtual kick up the bum I wouldn’t be mad! 😅
Hoping to pop back in this evening with small wins of getting some declutterring I want to do actually done! But for now, being in the bath is both a win AND a joy! 🛀

Small win today was resting and spending time with my eldest daughter watching telly. I'm in bed now as find Saturdays really lonely and difficult so will get an early night and hope tomorrow feels more positive. Will hit the gym tomorrow morning for sure

buggermewhatnext · 10/01/2026 22:30

Small win today did some exercise. Tided my kitchen cupboards. Lovely early night for me now.
