Yes, I’ve been prescribed amitriptyline and an SSRI together by a psychiatrist. It’s quite a common combination.

Hello. I currently take amitriptyline at night for carpel tunnel and have been taking citalopram for 15 years. Currently on 10 mg of citalopram and have no issues. I do take my citalopram in the morning.
hope it all goes well
for you.

Yes I take both to manage chronic pain. I have done for years with no adverse affects

NeedForSpeedyGonzales · 28/12/2025 19:55

I spent a long time on both, yes. Sertraline for depression and amitryptiline for chronic migraine.

Honestly, it was so long ago and I was in a very bad place so I can’t remember really. Pretty sure I was on the max dose of SSRI and a hefty dose of amitriptyline as I was going through a bad patch of insomnia/nightmares/flashbacks.

Been on escitalopram 20mg plus amitriptyline 80mg for years plus various other meds including buprenorphine 35mcg with no issues

Littletreefrog · 28/12/2025 20:12

I was on Amitriptyline for IBS and Citalopram for depression. I piled on 3 stone in less than a year. Which honestly seemed to make both conditions worse. I stopped taking them and ate better and exercised more (especially outdoors) lost the 3 stone plus some more than needed losing and have never felt better.

Hello. I take 2 x 10 mg of the amitriptyline each night. X

Pricelessadvice · 28/12/2025 21:07

Yes, been on both for years. No issues.

I’ve also had both at the same mg as you. Initially I tolerated them really well and took citalopram in the morning and amitriptyline at night. After about 6 months I started feeling lousy in the mornings (really sleepy, fuzzy headed, brain fog etc). GP suggested taking the amitriptyline earlier in the evening to compensate, so I tried this for several months with no change.

I couldn’t cope with feeling lousy in the mornings, so dropped the amitriptyline. With hindsight I realise I was coming into peri-menopause at this time, the symptoms of which undoubtedly exacerbated the morning brain fog and tiredness.

Wishing you well with it all @Cbpoppy

I’m on 150mg of sertraline and 20mg of amitriptyline, only been on it for a few weeks but it is making me fall asleep easier, I have to take it about 7pm though.

I've just left hospital after 5 days of the worst headache I've ever had , literally a 10/10, I've been prescribed 10mg amitriptyline each night , I also take 150mg trazodone and 40mg propanolol.
Has anyone had success with the amitriptyline for migraine ?
I've been tracking my headaches /migraine and I'm convinced they are cyclical but I don't know what id be prescribed differently , hrt maybe ??
