Sertraline - Always Hungry - Weight Gain

Has anyone experienced this always-hungry feeling on Sertraline? It’s like an emotional hunger rather than a physical feeling of actual hunger pangs - like I always want to eat (and have room for it, too). This is leading to weight gain when I’m already overweight (obese, technically). I am also hypothyroidic and medicated for that. I take 75mg Sertraline.

Op, I gained 26lb in 8 weeks on 50mg! I was snacking all day and would wait til DH was asleep so I could get up again and eat more! My hunger was insatiable and I'd have sweets hidden in every pocket. There are alternatives, do speak to your GP.

I had a spell on sertraline, albeit a much lower dose... and yet, I was permanently hungry! I could eat a whole bag of fish fillets in one go, plus potatoes and anything else on the plate. It was a very expensive stage of my life, in terms of food shopping!

One of my neighbours had been on sertraline, but didn't get the hunger with it.

I had a horrible time on sertraline many years ago. Always tired, always hungry, it was awful.

I was okay on Sertraline for 15 years (at which point they stopped working) but gained about 4 stone on Venlafaxine. Weight loss injections have sorted it. If you can afford them, that might be a solution if you need ADs. If it came to it, I'd rather be fat than depressed.

I put on a lot of weight on sertraline for this reason (and still haven’t managed to shift it despite coming off it!) it made me feel better but the weight gain was brutal. My gp didnt seem to care about this when I asked about it.

I was on it for about 2 years once and it didn’t affect my appetite. Maybe go back to doctor and see if there’s anything else to try?

I am in Escitalopram for the second time and I too have an insatiable hunger. I only get temporarily full.

I have gained about 1.5 stones since I started in June and it really gets me down.
