Is 6 weeks too early to increase Prozac dosage? I’m currently taking 20mg for severe anxiety about sleep - I’ve had this sporadically throughout the past ten years and fluoxetine at this dose has always helped. This time the anxiety is remaining very very high and I’m worried it’s not working. I’m also reluctant to increase the dose if I just need to give it more time but I feel stuck and a bit hopeless that this is never going to get better! I’m a great sleeper but I have massive anxiety about the repercussions of not sleeping that I fixate and ruminate on which is the anxiety fluoxetine has always helped with. Any advice greatly appreciated!

Hey there - here’s an overview on fluoxetine dosing. The takeaway is that 6-8 weeks after starting on a dose, if you’ve had partial improvement but not enough, then it would be wise to increase (note: ONLY with the guidance of your prescribing doctor, because they’ll know more about your side effects and any sensitivities). Also, a doctor really needs to monitor you increasing your dose, just because this is often the dangerous time; when people are still struggling but the anti-depressant gives them enough energy to do something regrettable about it.
