My son has Asperger’s syndrome and is starting to have OCD episodes around contamination anxiety. I am looking to see the GP, however I wondered what the potential options might be. Through previous experience with CAMHS, waiting lists are long and they can’t offer much support and since he’s not yet 18, I wasn’t sure what medication etc was available. Grateful for any help because it can be quite distressing for him.

My dd (20) is also or Asd without learning disability. she is very clever. She also suffers
From OCD

She has therapy for it where she is set goals to achieve. Regarding her compulsions.

For example eat grapes without examining them. Drink out of a glass without examining it and so on.

Her therapist says she is doing well.

She is also on sertraline and we are trying a new med as an adjunct Buspirone to see if that takes away her anxiety a bit more. However we are lucky as we can afford a private psychiatrist and have more say over her med choices and care.

It's early days but I see some glimmers.

Where are you based and can you afford to go private?

We pay £200 for hour appt and 40 for every script. Tho we are considered a stable patient so get an ongoing rate.

However now dd is an adult the gp will provide her sertraline.

My son has ASD and also has OCD . He doesn't respond to counselling or CBT but is on Sertraline which helps .
