Hair picking

I’ve struggled with hair picking for a long time but in the last few years it’s developed a lot more (I think as my hair is getting coarser) and I keep picking new growth. I’m so embarrassed by how it looks and have destroyed so much of my hair - it always looks messy because of all the shorter strands on top. Any advice or techniques to stop? It gets worse when I’m stressed but I think I also find it soothing in a sensory way to find coarse hairs or split hairs and break them.

I've worked with a (minor!) influencer to stop her picking her skin. It normally is a result of needing to feel a sense of control over something in a world where you have no other autonomy. You're right on the self soothing but it's also harming you now so needs to stop.

Any tips or signposting for how to stop picking? 🙏

@LazyCat96 A short course (1 or 2 sessions) of hypnotherapy/remedial hypnosis should fix it. It's not a conscious action so the change needs to come from the subconsious.
