Can citalopram make you feel worse?

I've taken it with good results in the past. I've just increased the dose to 40mg and I feel fuzzy headed and increasingly desperate. Hard to work out what is the pill and what is the depression. I've been on 40mg for 2 weeks.

If it has been only since you increased, then I would say tis the pill

Berrie · 02/06/2008 10:30

I don't suppose it can be since I increased it because I wasn't coping.
I started taking it at night because of how I felt in the day...but then I couldn't sleep. Took it this morning and an hour and a half on and I'm feeling terrible again...it's so hard to tell.

I know that when i went on it the doc said that I might feel worse for the 1st 2 weeks and suddenly I would feel much better and he was completely right. The 1st 2 weeks I felt nauseated and was up and down like a yoyo but then 2 weeks into taking it I felt great - it may be a similar situation when the dosage is increased?

If I were you I would see the doc to make sure. x

but then I guess if you had to up the dosage then maybe this one isn't working for you - there are lots of other options out there so don't despair. x

Thanks for replying.
I've got an appointment tomorrow. I changed from a breastfeeding friendly one to citalopram a couple of months ago as I was getting worse.
I am not suicidal, no one is in danger but I am feeling increasingly desperate and I feel that there is no help out there. My DH is really busy at work and can't keep coming home, in any case he is away for 3 days later in the week. I don't know what to do.

Oh berrie I am sorry you are feeling so bad Have you been offered any other help? Counselling? I had a couple of sessoins with a community psychiatric nurse which were very helpful - I just talked and talked!

In fact after only 1 hour with her I finally knew the real reason behind my 'ishoos'

Berrie · 02/06/2008 10:45

I have...I hate it to be honest. I'm glad it worked for you though.

I guess it isn't for everyone is it!? I hope your appointment goes well tomorrow and that things start to look brighter soon. x
