Diazepam

Due to the severity of my anxiety- I have a regular prescription of diazepam. Due to travel to EU next week - but my GP won’t give me another prescription ( haven’t asked yet but they’re very strict on it given it’s addictive nature) as I only had one last week.
Not sure what to do as I know I will need another supply Whilst away. I do have travel insurance and am going to Spain.
Any advice please?

Sorry to hear that you struggle with anxiety.

How long are you going to be away for?

I think it would be worth speaking to your GP and explaining the circumstances.

If they are happy to give you a regular prescription currently and you have been using it responsibly for a while they might be okay to give you enough to cover the trip.

How long have you been having anxiety issues? Have you looked at other treatments like SSRIs or therapy?

This reminds me of when I asked my GP for diazepam for air travel due to claustrophobia and anxiety. He gave me one tablet, said if I want any more then I should go and buy them from the street like the other drug addicts. Also, he would make a note on my records that if any other doctor prescribed them for me, they would be struck off.

Jesus fucking Christ. He actually said that? What a fucking cunt! Even if you WERE an addict, that is not how he should have been treating you. His lack of compassion is astounding.

If you're given a certain number of tablets for the month, and you've used them all before that month is up, then there will be a problem.

If you've simply used the 'correct' amount then you should ask for another prescription to cover your time away.

Do you regularly run out before you're meant to? If so what would you usually do in the gap where you don't have any?

There is a chance you could get some from a Spanish doctor or hospital but I just don't know the protocol.

I've only ever bought codeine tablets in the pharmacy in Spain. Those are stronger than the OTC ones you get in the UK. But not sure about benzos.
