My GP has offered ADs for trauma. Side effects of digestive symptoms are linked to my trauma. How did you dicide whether to take. I would honestly prefer a small ammount of something when things get bad and amitryptiline at a low dose to mannage ongoing nurve pain from surggery and support with sleep. I function when i sleep but when i habe repeated flashbacks or nightmares cant.

The only successful cure for flashbacks op is trauma focused cbt or emdr. Medication won't fix the issue but may help with the symptoms whilst waiting your therapy good luck

I have a large dose of Amitriptyline for my anxiety and depression but realistically, the only thing that helps with the trauma and my response to it, is therapy.

Thanks my gp is pushing ADs but cant see any evidence for then. When ican sleep i can function. However, triggers cannot get me to a state where sleep leads to flashbacks in the form of nightmares and feel scared to eat or drink.

Hi, I’m really sorry that you’re going through this. I experienced trauma related panic attacks for years that ruined my life at the time. I was taking anti depressants and other anxiety medications to help with the initial breakdown but ultimately what helped was self guided CBT (I couldn’t afford private and so I used YouTube videos and Reddit). The medication was helpful for a short time period when I was in a crisis but in the long run the most effective treatment is CBT and becoming comfortable with the uncomfortable feelings. I know that probably isn’t helpful to hear right now but I promise it gets bettter.

Really struggling tonight. Fell asleep for about 20 minutes at 10 and then woke with a flashback or nightmare and scared to go back to sleep.

Emdr changed my life. It was so beneficial. No harm in taking anti depressants while you are waiting.

I have recently been prescribed trazodone 50mg for similar. I have ptsd and struggle to sleep. This AD is normally prescribed for grief and trauma and accompanied sleep disorders.

I have CPTSD. I’m taking Amitriptyline, Propranolol and Zolpidem daily. This is helping with sleep as the combination knocks me out at night which is what I need. I’ve been unable to continue with several rounds of trauma based CBT because it’s too hard. I already suffer flashbacks, random panic attacks and nightmares even with the sleep meds several hours into the night. In the day time the flashbacks and panic attacks come on constantly if I’m not distracted. I’ve taken to listening to podcasts doing any small task like doing the dishes. I cannot cope with silence. I have omeprazole for acid reflux and I also have IBS with stress being the usual trigger.
