The doctor referred me a few months ago and my appointment is finally here. What sort of thing should I expect? I've got a questionnaire to fill in and take with me. I'm a bit nervous (well, very nervous really) and it's a man, too, which makes me feel even more nervous.
Anyone had experience and know what to expect?

what kind of counselling is it?

It's for depression, of the post-natal variety.

oh okay sorry

I was wondering if it was CBT because I have had that so could help

but haven't had PND counselling

I'm sure however that there is no reason to feel nervous. Whatever you are feeling, the counsellor will have had experience of it.

And if you dissolve into tears or can't speak or don't make sense they will have come up against that as well

don't be hard on yourself it is time for you

I'm seeing a male nurse, I was worried about it at first but he is lovely! He even rang my HV just to say he is seeing me and she said he sounds lovely too!

They will ask you for some history, you can go into as much or little detail as you want but it is better to be honest with them. Then they will either ask you what you want to deal with most or they will decide which bit needs dealing with. They will help you talk through the issues you decide to deal with and help you to work them out.
