An old and dear friend was sectioned a couple of days ago after an attempted crime. He was staying with us a few days beforehand and we suspected he was having/going into a manic episode, but he wasn’t extreme enough to be sectioned at that point.

He isn’t in touch with his family and we know him better than anyone he has regular contact with. He’s now been moved on from our local psychiatric unit (bed availability) and I’m not sure where he is.

We have detailed background information that would be useful to the MH team but I don’t know how to contact them. Obviously I don’t expect them to discuss him with me but I can talk to them without them giving me any information in return.

He’s a known suicide risk, has a history of being violent when having an episode and has previously been arrested and sectioned.

What’s the best thing to do? We want to do the best we can for him.

Just to add he’s an adult.

We’ve been able to speak to him for the first time today. We now know where he is. He’s on a forensic PICU about 200 miles away. He’s not well enough to hold much of a conversation and is still quite manic. I have the ward number and could call tomorrow.
