Guilt ridden

Just had a skin cancer removed. After dressing taken off, was out in moderate UV for couple of hours with just a (fairly thin) top over stitches. Now learned clothing doesn't protect from UV and am completely losing it over having given myself another skin cancer down the line. Hospital never said anything about buying special UV clothing so I don't know how I could have known but is this something everyone knows??? Completely consumed with guilt. This whole thing has my existing GAD completely spiralling.

Maybe just give the doctor a call and ask for their advice OP. Stop the spiralling and seek expert advice xx

I'm no Dr and someone with specialist knowledge will be along soon I'm sure but I think a few short hours will be ok. Now that you know, you can plan accordingly with UV protective clothing and/or bandages. Did you wear suncream? That might be a good place to start.

Couldn't wear suncream as stitches in. Told not to reapply bandage so it could air. Would everyone else have known a layer of clothing wasn't enough? Am i just an idiot? Can't ask doctor til middle of next week as he's away. Hospital gave no advice on sun exposure at all.
