A year and a half ago I went to see my dr because I was struggling with mental health . He put me on fluxotine and referred me to mental health. They did an assessment and said they thought I would benefit from EMDR but that they wanted to rule out ADHd first. Waiting list is really long. I went back to the dr last week as I am still finding things hard with a lack of emotional regulation and he doubled my dose. I am not sure it’s the right thing - I don’t think I am depressed as such as I go up and down so much. So I am guessing it’s nervous system disregulation or some other kind of mood disorder or they are on to something with the adhd. I just feel trapped in this limbo and am not functioning well. Wondered if anyone had any suggestions?

With the NHS the only thing you can do other that wait is pay privately.

Im sorry you are in this position - it’s not acceptable but it is how the nhs works.

I suppose I am wondering if it is worth going private. Just not sure I want just an adhd assessment as it might not be that.

Not a goady question..what makes you think it isn’t ADHD? And what makes you think it is nervous system dysregulation?
Often with ADHD dysregulation/difficulties with interoception are common

It’s a good question. I think it’s more I just don’t know. There’s a fair amount of unresolved childhood trauma which makes me think nervous system stuff could be at play. Maybe it is adhd, I definitely struggle with processing information. I guess the two look like each other and I don’t like not knowing what I am dealing with. I worry if I go private they will just diagnose me because I am paying for it. I can’t imagine I’ll be at the top of the NHS list anytime soon though.
