Hello, I’ve been struggling with depression and I’m currently only on day 12 of this medication. I know everyone is different but has anyone taken this with success of treating depression.
The side effects have been awful but I’ve carried on.
Any helpful advice would be appreciated.

I didn’t have side effects but it took about 4-6 weeks to kick in.

I didn't have any side effects but it took about 4 weeks before I noticed any difference

I don’t even know what to expect from it, I know it’s not a magic wand but do these feelings lift?

Hi there - honestly, admitting i needed help and starting sertaline is one of the best things i've ever done. Feeling so good but it did take time - more than a lot of people (from what i gather from other posts). I would say it took around 4 weeks for me to start feeling a bit better, 8 weeks to say 'yep, these are definitely working' and 12 weeks for me to realise that I feel really, really good. They are slow acting, so don't be disheartened if it takes a while. It will be worth it. That said, if you're feeling nothing after 4 weeks, definitely speak to your doctor as you may need to increase. Good luck!!

I’m on these I’m on day 9 I had to start with half a tablet for a week and then a full tablet. I’ve been told they take a few weeks to start working. I had bad side effects from the last ones citalopram when I started them it was awful!

To treat depression you must keep believing you can change things. Depression must be confronted and pray about it everyday. What makes you depressed, once you address the triggers it will be recovery.

You’re almost over the worst. It’s been a life saver for me

I’ve started this last week so I can’t say whether they work yet , but side effects are horrid. I feel nauseous every day, struggling to eat and have had a massive change in bowel movements

Hey,

yes I feel so much better now! Starting to feel myself again thank god!

how are you?

@spicyenchilladas I am glad to hear things are positive for you, it helps give me hope.

I am finding things tough just now. Im a week and a half into an increased dose of escitalopram and finding the side effects awful.

I have been through this a few times before and can tell myself it will get better but when you are in it that isn't a comfort.

I am feeling horrific all day and then get a small window of relief at night just before bed when I feel almost normal and human again. I am in that relief period now and don't want to go to bed as I know I have to feel shit all over again tomorrow.

It is so reassuring to hear from someone a few weeks ahead of me that things get better, so thanks so much for the reply.
