I'm on a low dose of mirtazipine for insomnia and it has been amazing, but I'm on day three on venflaxine and wide awake in the early hours.

Did others find that the insomnia settled in time?

Hi I've been on it since December! I found it also caused insomnia and it made me feel unwell at night so I only took the morning dose (37.5) and let my body get used to that before adding in the night time 37.5 dose and that worked for me! X

Thanks so much @PenguinLover24that is really reassuring. Can you remember how long it took for your system to settle down?

I always take my Venlafaxine (375mg) as soon as I’ve eaten breakfast. Taking it at night doesn’t work for me, although the lower doses made me sleepy!

I’ve been on various different antidepressants throughout my life (I have bipolar disorder), I’m also a GP. I would say that venlafaxine and sertraline are the worst of them for insomnia for me personally (as well as vortioxetine actually) and a lot of my patients have had similar, however if you can stick with it it gradually reduces as time goes on and usually settles altogether between week 3 and 4 if not before, which is when the benefits kick in. Weirdly for me I would actually say that the antidepressants that caused the worst side effects for me generally (these ones!) have also been the most effective in terms of helping with depression. Stick with it and hopefully things will settle, but if you’re still struggling around week 6 it might be time to find something else!

Interesting, as i find it drowsy (37.5 ) and so take it at night

Thank you, really helpful to hear all your experiences. It's been five days now, will see how it goes.

I found it settled down after a week or two.

Apparently it works differently at doses over 150mg. Part of that is that it makes you sleepy up to 150mg but over that and it keeps you awake.

I just had an extremely painful cramp in my leg followed by lightheadedness and now feel quite nauseous. Seems to be another side effect.
