Did your DH have a mid-life crisis?

DH has made some classic stereotypical middle-aged choices recently (think motorbike, leather jacket, trying to grow his hair, injuring himself doing young-person hobbies) and while I can handle the embarrassment, is there something deeper I should be looking for? If your DH had a mid-life crisis, was there a mental health aspect?

Yep. My XH has had a complete personality transplant. It started with starting to exercise, new hobbies, weight loss, new clothes, impulsive purchases and complaints about our life.

Turns out he was fucking an employee of his and ran off with her. Has been the most selfish cunt I’ve ever met since and I don’t recognise him or his behaviour. He divorced me quicker than I could blink and is on a huge self-destructive mission now, which is damaging my DD’s mental health.

Reddit has a good sub on midlife crisis. I hope yours is a mild one and the trigger isn’t another woman.

Yep, new clothes, young mistress, no interest in the children, new hobby (skiing). Left us aged 40.

Yup, fucking around, miserable to live with, divorce and most embarrassingly a stupid tattoo.

On the other hand I have had dates/chatted with men who have been accused of having a MLC. What they say is they were married to the wrong person, and were trying to escape to reclaim their lives. They felt they were utterly stagnating and hated themselves.

i never understand that line of reasoning… being married to the wrong person doesn’t mean you can’t find yourself or peruse dreams etc ( so long as they are not abusive etc) you just crack on with these things and work on yourself… while staying with your family…
