What to do with old journals?

I’ve got a massive bag of old notebooks, diaries, bits of paper which I’ve written in over last last 20 years. There are some nice things in there about stuff the kids were doing when they were younger, but there’s a lot that’s just admin and there’s a lot of stuff there about how I’m unhappy and struggling and trying to find ways to feel better which I don’t want to keep and don’t want my family reading if something happens to me - it was really just processing at the time but gives a pretty bleak picture.

I feel like I should keep the stuff about the kids, but really will they care? Will they be interested? We’ve got photos and videos and they have their own memories. It gets me down reading through them. Any ideas about what to do with them? Shred the lot? Or try to salvage nice bits and if so, how?

Personally I would let it all go and shred it/burn it. Don’t get yourself down.

Keep the stuff about the kids. You might enjoy reading it, even if they don't.

Bin the rest.

take photos of the good pages, then bin the rest.
