Experiencing extreme anxiety and can't go on like this. Have been to A&E a few times, my GP countless times, SDEC twice and been seen by urgent care in the last 2 weeks. All NHS. All just dismiss it as panic attacks and say I have to wait it out. Yes it is panic attacks but it's constant and I need more effective help. GP doesn't understand why meds aren't working and has told me to wait it out. Citalopram increased to 20mg yesterday and told to contact in 2 weeks if that hasn't helped and we'll increase to 30mg. I can't do this for another two weeks!

Barnt Green Priory is my nearest, does anyone have any experience with this centre please? Good? Bad? If not Priory then what other private care is available please? Does anywhere reputable do remote/virtual consultations? I'm not bashing the nhs by the way but I can't do their waiting lists right now as need help now.

thank you

It's my understanding that only a psychiatrist can prescribe. If that's your nearest private provider then I guess you haven't anything to lose by calling them and seeing about making an appointment. Ask them if you need a GP referral or if you can self-refer.

Priory can't see me for at least 48 hrs, besides A&E is there anywhere I can go for help today?

You can contact NHS Direct and speak to the mental health team. You can try Hub of Hope to see what support is available locally.

You might have a crisis cafe near you. They are staffed by mental health professionals and you can drop in.

Hey OP, I’m in such a similar situation. What about the crisis team?

WorriedFfamily · 13/04/2025 14:35

Thank you for responses all. I'm so sorry you're dealing with similar @Limeandbasil90, I hope you can find appropriate care. I didn't even know about the crisis team but last night they were very good. I think it depends which clinician is on because the first mental health nurse spent nearly an hour on the phone with me and was brilliant, but I had to ring again later and the guy that was on then wasn't so good. So still wasn't perfect but absolutely the most amount of useful help I've had during this crisis.
