My son is 24. He has mental health/addiction/depression issues - I'm not sure which is the most problematic. This has been going on for many years and the relationship between the family is incredibly damaged as a result. We have all the classic problems - won't work, lazy, stays in bed etc etc.

We have tried getting him help - he won't engage. I've called adult social services, the council mental health teams and his GP more than once. The upshot is he is over 18 and there's nothing they can do until he engages.

I would like to know if anyone has been in this situation, what practical help is available and that there is light at the end of the tunnel because right now, it feels like a black hole.

What does he think? Does he believe there's an issue?

He just says no one helps him. Tbh it's really difficult to speak to him about the situation because he storms out of the house.

Hey did you manage to get any further help? I am in the same position with my 26 year old brother who lives with me. (I wrote out a whole long message then website froze and dissapeared :( ) we need serious help as a family but not sure where to turn. GP not helpful everyone wants consent but he’s mentally ill and don’t think he realises the extent of the problem
