Citalopram and irritability

Hello Smile

For many reasons I am under and have been under a lot of stress for a long time,
A lot of the stressors I can't do much about.

But I want to be as good a mum I can for my boys.

Can I ask if people have found citalopram helps with irritability and reactiveness that goes with being stressed and not sleeping?
I don't want to be that snappy Mother.

I've had a lot of counselling for my situations but I still struggle with sleep and stress and being very snappy at times because of it.

Yes, 100%.
I have been taking Citalopram for 3 weeks and I’m like a different person. No more irritability at all. I honestly can hardly believe it.

Thank you .. I'm glad you feel better. can I ask what dose you are on please? Do you take in the evening and does it help with sleep?

@Bookaholic73 also how were the side effects I'm worried about the first few weeks.

Personally no, citalopram did nothing for me except destroy my sex drive and make me feel flat as a pancake.

I found paroxetine to be much better and with much fewer side effects.

Sorry, I meant to say I’ve been taking it for 4 weeks, not 3.
I’ve been on 20mg and have just been increased to 30mg.
I take mine in the evening about an hour before bed, as I find I’m very tired shortly after taking it.
I don’t find it helps with sleep, but I dont see a difference in my sleep at all so far.

I’m very lucky that I’ve had almost zero side effects. I lost my appetite for a week or so when I started taking them, and I get tired about an hour after taking them. But apart from that, I’ve had no side effects.

I think that Citalopram works very well for me, but everyone is different.
