Fluexotine and hair loss

Hi. I haven't been on here for ages (working) but my Sister has asked me to post this question.

She has been taking Fluexotine for 3 weeks and has noticed her hair falling out (not literally all) but quite a lot of strands of hair when she brushes it or washes it.

Has anyone had similar? She said she hasn't noticed the tablets working yet either. Should she go back to the doctors? Any advice appreciated.

My hair fell out on the mini pill years ago, as well as dramatic weight loss, I would go back on it now if it was'nt for the hair loss, not much help sorry, what does it say in side affects on the leaflet?

It says it is a possible side effect but quite rare. I think she should go the the doctors - it could be thyroid or something else couldn't it??

It could be, but hairloss is a more extreme side affect with an underactive thyroid, more likely it will dry out and go brittle, but yes she should go back to gp.

Shaniece, think she should go back to GP. It may be unrelated to the Fluexotine but worth checking. Also, if she has been taking the tablets for 3 weeks, would have thought she should have seen a little improvement, it might be her GP may alter the medication or dose.

Hope she gets things sorted.
