Dd8 was vomiting all day Saturday has had bad cramps since then with reduced eating was sick again Monday night once. Slowly getting better but still far from normal self.

Dd3 so far doesn't have it but is so reckless with putting hands in her mouth.

Please tell me when I can start thinking maybe the rest of us won't catch it?!!

I am literally in crisis due to this and diazepam didn't touch the sides of my panic attacks

I'd say 48-72 hours after the last bout of diarrhoea or vomit xx

Nogodsnomasters · 19/02/2025 13:57

Here's the thing, if it's caught directly from person to person contact ie you cleaning up sick or being thrown up on by your son etc then 48hrs from that point. However this virus lives on surfaces for up to 2 weeks, obviously the most infectious room being the bathroom. The only thing that kills it is bleach or hand washing (rinsing it away off your hands). So if touch points are not properly cleaned or hand washing is not thorough then anything up to 14 days it could still be caught. Also have emetophobia and have done A LOT of proper research into this.

Thank you! My hands are red raw from washing and after I wash them I use ecohydra which is nonalcohol based hand sanitizer which supposedly helps. I've not touched my face in days.

She hasn't been poorly in bathroom but in disposable sick bowls but still using clinnell wipes for every touch point I can see... just fabrics like the sofa are giving me the ick atm!

Just like you I've done a hell of a lot of research but still just want someone to tell me my chances of getting it are now decreasing I just can't seem to get out of high alert panic mode. The nausea from the anxiety is killing me!

I can't help with the bugs but my DD (16) suffers with emetophobia and has just had her first hypnotheraphy session today...hoping it will help her anxiety.

What's the worst that will happen if you catch it? I am guessing you will not die? It's the anxiety that's the issue. Us reassuring you is not going to help you to beat this. Keep taking deep breaths, distract yourself and think about it NOT happening. Everyone I know with emetophobia is so good with hand washing they never get ill!!

LucyIsImmoral · 19/02/2025 21:42

I used to be like you. Then I noticed that friends who had much more lax hygiene didn't catch it when their child had it. When you've just had your first child your immunity is low to these things and you catch them and feel terrified that you're doomed. You'll be fine now especially with your precautions. Trust in your immune system.

I honestly feel your pain. I truly do. How long has it been now?

jem1008 · 20/02/2025 19:47

@Nogodsnomasters so 72 hours since she was sick a one off on Monday night...

@Nogodsnomasters The worst part is my brain tricks me into thinking I have a belly ache and that I'm getting it!

OP posts:
Nogodsnomasters · 20/02/2025 20:45

By this point I'd say you've got a good 80-90% chance of being clear from it. The first 72hrs are usually the riskiest. Keep up with the hand washing. It's the anxiety and stress causing that belly ache!
