Sleeping problems

I'm so fed up. I sometimes have awful insomnia and my sleep cycle gets out of whack.

I'm currently staying up all night and sleeping for a few hours in the day. It's killing me. I hate being up all night and it's bad for my mental health.

How do you deal with it and sort out your sleeping pattern?

Being anxious about not sleeping is a guaranteed way of not being able to sleep.

Think about it this way. We very seldom in our daily lives get the opportunity to lie around doing nothing. This is why we love holidays so much - if we choose, we can spend the day doing nothing except resting, completely free of guilt and without perceiving that as being lazy. But we forget, we actually get the opportunity to do this every night.

When we go to bed at night, if we simply accept that it’s more important that we are resting and treating ourselves to some relaxation than that we are unconscious, we take the pressure off the process of sleeping and reduce any anxiety about sleep.

I had this and tried everything. I literally tried every suggestion even if it sounded daft. What finally worked was: no screens for an hour before bed; and the STOPP technique to deal with intrusive thoughts.
