Citalopram insomnia - I feel awful

It is the third time in ten years I have been on this medication but it’s never caused this issue before and I feel awful.
I am at the end of week three, I was supposed to have a medication review that was cancelled and now won’t be seen until the end of January!
I get off to sleep after about 30 minutes but then wake up 3 hours later and am awake for hours. The fall asleep about 6 am but once school starts up after the holidays I will have to get up at 6.45 for the school run!

Has anyone dealt with this side effect? Will it get better, or can I do anything to help? Fatigue with unidentified cause has been a trigger for my breakdown in the first place so this is really counterproductive for my recovery.

Oh OP I would push for an urgent appointment in mental health grounds- they should give it to you. Ask to change meds. All the best xx

I will have to access the Crisis team for that as my GP surgery basically told me I just need to wait for my review.

What time of day do you take it? I had insomnia if I took it at bedtime so I switched to the morning which was much better.

I have been taking it at night as the first week it really wiped me out, so I slept through the worst of the side effects.
I have started moving it earlier in the day to eventually take it in the morning to see if it helps.
I don’t get on with most other SSRI at all so I really want to stick with this and hope to improve
