My 8 year old, soon turning 9 is struggling with quitting sucking his thumb. I have tried using thumb bandaids and covers, however he will just suck his fingers. This have became an issue because he does this habit often. He always sucks his thumb or finger when he sleeps, whenever he’s watching TV, in the car, and whenever he’s alone. He does good in school and has always been. Whenever we encourage him to stop he would get mad.

I sucked my thumb until my early 20s although I got very good at only sucking it in private so none of my friends would make fun of me. It brought my comfort and didn't do me any harm. My parents tried to make me stop from time to time but they never acknowledged that it served an important purpose for me.
