Hi all,
Started sertraline yesterday morning for anxiety and panic attacks. Obviously not expecting it to work overnight and GP told may I may feel worse for 5 days until it improves. He also said usually helps in 70% of people. Still feeling panicked a lot but had awful insomnia last night too, which obviously I'm worried about. I also feel nauseous and worried about not eating as much.
Does anyone have any reassurance of similar experiences? Just want to know that things likely to settle and I will feel more myself again. Got a call with GP in 2 weeks. Have 2 young DC and just feel so guilty.
Thank you

I'm back on it for a second time. 50mg for now but going to see about a dosage increase this morning. The first couple of weeks I felt very jittery and anxious, then it was as though someone had flipped a switch inside my brain and I felt much more like my old self.

The insomnia gets me too, it settles after a week or so for me

I was in such a bad way when I started it I took it alongside Propranolol and a 6 week course of sleeping tablets. I needed that framework to get me through. Would it be worth speaking with your GP?

I do think I felt a bit better from about 7 days or so and by 3 months in I was back in control of myself and functioning well again.

It's rough at the start but day 14 I started to feel better and then it just gradually got better and better.

It really is a fantastic drug.

I actually decided to stop after 3 days and a chat with my GP. I felt truly awful/worse and he said I sounded very sensitive to them. Best of luck to everyone on them - I think I am in the minority. Seeking therapy and time and if not there are other medications.

I started Sertraline 3 days ago and I'm suffering with nausea, agitation, the shivers and some sleep issues. No appetite at all which isn't helping. Also 25mg.

However, I know several people on them who all say they've really helped. I'm hoping that once the initial hump is over, I'll start to improve.

Good luck @StunnedCrab xx

Best of luck @StunnedCrab , sorry you had such a rough time on them.

@SewingIsMySuperPower I started 3 days ago as well but on an even lower dose of quarter of a tablet (12.5mg). It's helpful to read experiences from people who had side effects at the start and then improved after a couple of weeks. Fingers crossed!

I hope the therapy helps .
If it isn’t enough then there are other meds and you may suit a different one . I was extremely sensitive to a different AD (it worked but wiped me out - even the lowest dose )

Today is my seventh day taking 25mg for depression and anxiety. I also have SAD. On my fifth day I felt better than I have done for quite some time

I always feel down and depressed in the dark Winter months which is my SAD taking hold. I've been struggling with anxiety at work. My anxiety is better now but I am off work for another three weeks

On my sixth day I felt rubbish again which was very disappointing but today I feel more positive again. I think what also helps me is exercise so I'm doing a good walk every day too. Right now I feel pretty good for this time of year. The weekend before last my whole time was taken over by anxiety and it was horrible. I hope I continue to improve
