What antidepressants worked best for you?

Hi all,

I'm sinking very low and I know I need some help.

I haven't had to use antidepressants for years.

Any recommendations for the best one to try?

Thank you x

Surely that is down to the Dr to decide?

Fwiw sertraline for me. But it was the Dr who told me what to take.

Oh this is something that is entirely entirely individual. I would be very careful about taking a view based on what worked for people on here. Sometimes you have to try a few. Go to your GP and they will advise you best.

All the best for feeling better soon xx

People do respond very differently but drugs.com has lots of reviews and information about the different types and gives average ratings from user reviews for each one.

I have just started Escitalopram but early days and have previously taken sertraline, so far I would say start up on escitalopram has been much easier

Vortioxetine works best for me (previously tried sertraline, citalopram, mirtazapine) but it’s expensive so you’ll get offered it first line.

Not get offered it first line that should say

You need to take a medic's advice.
I was on Sertraline for years and it worked well then stopped as the anxiety became issue rather than the depression. I then went on to the lowest dose of venfalaxine (slow release) and it helped with the anxiety brilliantly - it is an SNRI so works a bit differently ;but I became a zombie. I am back on sertraline now but it isn't enough so I may have to try something else !
I think it is trial and error unfortunately .
