...in the years when we have our periods, usually sometimes between ovulation and the beginning of the period?

or is it just me?

No. But I did get teary for no reason during the perimenopause. Cute kittens, nativity play, a flower my grandmother used to love and I would bawl. This went on for approximately 5 years. Otherwise it was when I was a teenager hating life or last year.

However I did used to get angry or even zenlike at certain points of my
cycle 😈😇

Hi!

The phase of your period you're describing is your luteal phase, where our mood dips and we get things like pms. Not everyone does, but it's very common.

Youve noticed the cycle yourself so take a look at the luteal phase and what it means for you mood wise and physically - it'll help you understand why these mood shifts happen.

Totally normal, I cry at this phase, too! In fact I'd say 80% of the women I know do, too.

Thank you🫂

No. I actually can't remember the last time I cried. Years ago?!

@RosesAndHellebores, 💐💐💐. I’m so sorry.

OP, no, I’ve never noticed any link between my menstrual cycle and crying.

Ohwhatshoestobuy · 21/11/2024 22:54

No. I’m on copper coil so get all my natural hormones.

BitOutOfPractice · 21/11/2024 22:56

I’ve cried twice today. Once at a family situation, once at a tv programme. I’m 57. I’ve always been emotional.

RosesAndHellebores · 21/11/2024 22:59

My apologies. I have just realised this thread is in Mental Health. I didn't mean to be so unsympathetic or minimise individual's vulnerability.

I thought once a month was surely rare. I don't count, but I'd say a few times a week is normal for me. That's not bawling/sobbing crying though (that would be when bad things happen or hormones are everywhere, or watching something distressing on the news, which I avoid), just tearful or a 2-5 minutes cry maybe.

I had more bawling/sobbing crying before HRT, so perhaps once or twice a month then, except my periods were so bad, there'd be days of crying then.

I take myself off for a little cry pretty regularly.. I’m a happy person with a generally lovely life but now and then it’s a nice relief. I always feel better after.

mondaytosunday · 21/11/2024 23:32

Im post menopause now but no I never cried for that reason.

dontcryformeargentina · 21/11/2024 23:39

Nope... don't remember the last time I cried..

No, I was more hormonal when I was in my early 20s though. Now it's calmed down a lot. I do feel more at certain time of the month but I rarely cry.

unclemtty · 21/11/2024 23:43

I don't think I cried in term of being connected to time of the month but I cry loads, I've had a very tough time though lots of death and troubles in my family and lots of personal misfortune that has been very unfair.

Gob smacked st those who haven't cried for years! Genuine question, are you all men?

housemaus · 21/11/2024 23:43

God I cry at least once a week! There's a definite uptick around certain parts of my cycle though.

MrsSkylerWhite · 21/11/2024 23:44

No, very, very rarely cried/cry.

I very rarely cry, but I wish I could. As you said it's a release and I just so rarely get that. I cried on and off for a few days two years ago when we were told my son had a malignant bone tumour. Then I went into very much "strong" mode.
I next cried this summer, over something at work. I don't know where it came from, I was overwhelmed, held it together in the meeting and then cried to my manager afterwards. She was brilliant and just said that she was glad that I felt able to cry in front of her. It was a fleeting moment and I haven't cried since.
Id love to cry more, but I just can't.

StormingNorman · 21/11/2024 23:51

No.

Jingleballs2 · 21/11/2024 23:53

No.. I'm.not a crier though. Except when I was pregnant and had to stop antidepressants at the same time 😭

Femme2804 · 22/11/2024 00:17

Nope. I just cry when i watched sad movies

MysteriousUsername · 22/11/2024 00:19

I went through a phase where I didn't cry for years. I was very unhappy in my marriage, and it's like my emotions shut down. I just didn't feel much, although I had good times, with laughter, and bad - but never cried, except when my mum died.

Once the marriage was over and I found my DP, it's like the floodgates opened. Poor DP then got a very emotional me at certain points! But it's definitely healthier for me, and actually his caring response helped me a lot.

I don't cry much now that first flood has passed.

Yesterday I cried as it was the anniversary of a death, today I cried over something happy. Just glad I can now let these feelings out when needed.

Onlyvisiting · 22/11/2024 00:29

No, definitely not.
Good books might make me cry, maybe more easily at certain times iyswim? But can't say I've noticed it, and never for 'no' reason. And when I say cry, I mean I she'd a few tears and maybe get snotty. Not full on sobs, don't think I've cried properly like that since I was a child, i just feel sad and my face leaks a bit!

MercianQueen · 22/11/2024 00:32

Never did when I had periods. Menopause hit, I turned into an absolute shitshow.

TheChosenTwo · 22/11/2024 00:34

I don’t cry but I do find myself getting a bit snappy with dh and angry (the anger is internal, usually when I’m at my desk at home and I start having a silent rage to myself 😂).
I have PCOS and no discernible cycle, it feels incredibly unfair that I can’t ever pinpoint a date/pattern to any of it so I never know if my snappiness or silent rage is justified.
It’s shit!
