...in the years when we have our periods, usually sometimes between ovulation and the beginning of the period?

or is it just me?

Nope. Can't remember the last time I cried.

JustCri · 21/11/2024 22:38

That was easy, thanks 😅

No. I have maybe cried occasionally when on my period but literally could count the number of times in the fingers of one hand.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 21/11/2024 22:40

No, I don’t. But I have friends who cry regularly at least a couple of times a week.

JustCri · 21/11/2024 22:41

If I may ask@WonderingWanda (delete if not allowed) ...are you on any hormonal contraceptive?

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 21/11/2024 22:41

No, I think I've cried about 3 times in the last decade!

JustCri · 21/11/2024 22:42

Cool, thanks, I have a definite "mood" cycle going on and trying to dissect it...

No. I have gone years without crying

WonderingWanda · 21/11/2024 22:43

No, not on any hormonal contraceptives. I've never been much or a crier. Maybe a bit more prone to tears in my teens and when pregnant.

Houseplanter · 21/11/2024 22:44

Yes. I'm a little past it now (thank god) but I remember well the feeling of being overwhelmed to the point of tears. Often without any discernible reason.

KnittingKnewbie · 21/11/2024 22:45

No I don't

I'll very occasionally cry in response to events. Perhaps 4 times in the last 2 years - funeral, family situation overwhelm, dangerous situation and one more I can't remember why - something on the news maybe

Icedlatteplease · 21/11/2024 22:45

I do.

I have a day where I feel like crying, want to die and go to bed. My period starts within 48 hours. My DD also does. In hindsight my mum also did.

I've been on the depo injection most my adult so no periods. I recently tried coming off, when my periods returned it took 4months to recognise the very distinctive pattern.

Berlinlover · 21/11/2024 22:46

Since my cancer diagnosis last year I have cried every single day but to be honest before that I probably cried once a week. Astonished at PP saying they haven’t cried in years, lucky them.

Amybelle88 · 21/11/2024 22:46

Hi!

The phase of your period you're describing is your luteal phase, where our mood dips and we get things like pms. Not everyone does, but it's very common.

Youve noticed the cycle yourself so take a look at the luteal phase and what it means for you mood wise and physically - it'll help you understand why these mood shifts happen.

Totally normal, I cry at this phase, too! In fact I'd say 80% of the women I know do, too.

MakingLemonadealways · 21/11/2024 22:47

Yep pretty much every month. Tears and feel reaaaally low and hopeless

HobnobsChoice · 21/11/2024 22:48

I get pms that can be so bad I feel like my life is worthless and not worth living. I feel dreadful then I look on my period tracker and realise that it's not depression and I'm due my period later that week.

NewName24 · 21/11/2024 22:48

No I don't (or didn't at that time).
No, neither of my (adult) dds do.

Isthisrightandlegal · 21/11/2024 22:49

I cry every day and have done for years. I’m easily overwhelmed and have been in autistic burnout for a very long time though due to PTSD

This...sometimes there are reasons, sometimes, smells, or songs, or words...but hardly ever in the first two weeks of the cycle, and the closer to the beginning of it, the more likely ..sounds like it's just something of us go through, and it's overwhelming but I often feel much better after it...some other times it's like a day long feeling of being about to cry...

I go through phases of crying more or less, but I’d say it’s weekly, usually.

I think it’s linked to hormones. I’m worse in week 3.

Sometimes I cry daily/more than once a day. It’s not nice, it’s real, genuine sadness even if nothing’s actually wrong!

Absolutely

Except for tears of joy, I haven't cried for 28 years.

DS2 died shortly after he was born. Nothing much touches you after you have buried and grieved for a child. I almost faltered reading at my father's funeral but I pulled it back.

I cry about 3 times a week minimum at the moment because I am going through it but my friends don't cry regularly at all
