Little self confidence

I am so low in confidence, I’ve always been this way from a young child. Now at work we’ve been told from December that twice a week it’s back in the office. I hated it before, noise, etc., now I’m dreading it as it will start again. I’m so confident over the telephone and Skype but in person, I guess it will show.

Any advice, I’m struggling with this so much?

Who told you that? Young children generally can't make that sort of judgement about themselves.

No one told me. I was aware of how I felt and can remember back to some of these times. I don’t view this as unusual.

Hi Libby,

Have you been going in at all? I think building up slowly will help. Maybe go in on a Friday when it’s a bit quieter (but still shows willing).

Have you had any therapy to help?

LibbyLPX · 07/11/2024 06:58

@Bloatedbelly No, not yet, but next month this is due to change. I’m going to speak to my manager and ask if I can start with one day, hoping she’ll agree. I tried CBT in the past but didn’t find it that helpful. I hate feeling the way I do, it limits me so much but I’ll push on as best as can.
Thanks so much for replying.

What is it about being around people / in the office which affects you? One thing a wise friend told me is that people thing about themselves 90% of the time. It might help realising that most the time others are more focused on themselves than you.

Get another job - there are loads that don't require this. Until then you can find excuses not to go in most weeks. As a fellow anxiety sufferer I sympathise and honestly the office can fuck off. All these losers with no friends who need to force us to suffer so they feel less lonely. "Sparking ideas 🫠🫠🤪"

This is so true

Also could you....

Get yourself a power outfit or two? Something that makes you feel great and secure

Get your hair done, nails done (even if it's just some clear polish with the thought of looking good gives you confidence

Practice walking with good posture and with purpose it boosts your confidence

Drinks lots of water and take vitamins if your diets not great

Get yourself a lovely perfume to feel good too

Look in the mirror every morning and say 'I can do this'

Deep breaths and practice some breathing techniques, yoga, meditation on YouTube. It doesn't work at first but after a few weeks it can help

I would start going in once a week now, so that when it goes up to twice a week you're more prepared. Get some loop earplugs to help shut out the noise. Are you ND?

Yes I am. The noises can drive me loopy as can some people. I’m so much better and confident in my bubble.

I find the noises particularly distracting. Also some people I can struggle with. I’m not good at offices at all.
