Can anyone recommend what I can take for insomnia while on citalopram. I am get off to to sleep ok but waking every hour then wide awake from 4am. I never had any issues sleeping before my anxiety started in the summer. The anxiety stopped me sleeping it was one vicious circle, I am going to see my GP Monday and desperately need something I’ve not slept tidy for a week and it’s making my anxiety 100 times worse. Any advice much appreciated x

GP changed me to sertraline.. much better for sleeping.

Agree. Talk to your doctor and see whether you can swap to another pill.

Hi Moier, How long was you on it for? This is week 7’for me and the insomnia has only started now. How did you find switching to sertraline? Was it a straight swap? x

@Annie175 hey, how did you get on with your citalopram journey? X

Hi, I’m much better now after increasing my dose to 30mg. Sleeping well and back in work I feel great x

@Annie175 that's amazing to hear as my dr today wants me to increase to 30mg as I'm so so anxious still on 20mg but I don't want to feel worse ... and I'm not in work I've been off too.

So having your reply was lovely to see x

I was on 20mg for 8 weeks then up to 30mg I felt better within a week of being on 30mg and got better and better with each week. You will get there it just takes time xx

@Annie175 you would definitely say go up to 30mg?

Honestly I'm so glad to see your post as I'm at my wits end x

Annie175 · 18/12/2024 20:59

It definitely helped me going up to 30mg. How long you been on 20mg? x

This is what I was changed to as well after citalopram disagreed with me. Sertraline made me feel very nauseous for the the first few weeks though and I did always feel slow and strange on it. I am no longer on it but it was definitely better than citalopram
