I’ve been taking Citalopram for 7 weeks for anxiety which caused insomnia causing more anxiety. I’ve had two good week on week 4 and 5 and now gone back downhill, not sleeping and anxiety back. Is this normal? Doctor prescribed zopiclone to try and get my sleep on track but I’m scared to take it incase I end up not being able to sleep without it. Any help/advice please.

I have that combination of meds.
Take the zopiclone if you need it but be aware that if you take it for more than a week or so consistently you might have headaches for a day or two as a withdrawal symptom when you stop. I have not found using it means I can’t sleep without it.

Thank you. How long have you been taking Citalopram? I’m really struggling this week after having such a good week last week.

I take zopiclone but only when I'm desperate as if I take it for any length of time I can't sleep without it so I think you're right there.

What does help me is 10mg of Melatonin an hour before bed. Think GP will only give you 5mg in uk so if you know anyone coming back from USA you can get it from any pharmacy shelf. Also magnesium glycinate.

Try and use the Zopiclone when you are really desperate for sleep
and literally feel as if you are cracking up. I find the night after taking it I don’t sleep very well.

Thank you. The thought of not sleeping is making my anxiety spiral out of control again it’s like a vicious circle. I’ve been fine for the past 6 weeks and now feel back to square one. Thanks all for the reply’s

@Annie175 how did you get on in the end . Just started citalopram and don't know if zopiclone is helping

Annie175 · 15/12/2024 14:44

Hi,
I am much better now. Upped my dose to 30ml and I feel really well. I only took the zoplicone for 2 nights because I felt really lethargic the next day and they only helped me sleep a few hours. My sleeping is back to normal now. Hope your feeling better soon xx

I take zopiclone only when desperate, have used it on this basis for about 12 years so definitely not addicted. I find half a tablet works for me.
