My MIL has suffered from poor metal health for a long time, but recently things have gotten a lot worse. It all started when she was admitted to the hospital because of hart condition. During that time her mental health deteriorated further and she became even more depressed and anxious. We're now in a difficult situation, where the doctors are not in a position to treat her heart because of her mental state and the mental health professionals are running out of treatment options. The medication/ therapy doesn't seem to be working and she's not willing to engage with the professionals who are desperately trying to help her. Any ideas how to help someone like that? She's currently sectioned and staying in a community hospital. It's just a very upsetting situation for everyone involved. She was relatively fine a couple of months ago, still living at home.

That sounds a very tough situation for you all. It sounds to me like everyone is already doing all that can be done. She is thankfully safe where she is. My Mum has very serious mental health issues and ended up resistant to the usual treatment drugs. She had to stay in hospital for a few months till a new drug got licensed in UK for use in drug-resistant cases. Once licensed, she was out within days on it and best she’d been in decades but I remember worrying she’d never be able to leave if it didn’t get licensed or didn’t work for her.

Hopefully other posters will have some advice and support. I just didn’t want to read and not post some support.

Thank you for posting. Glad your mum managed to get the drug she needed. Good to hear a positive outcome! Hoping the doctors can find something that works for my MIL too 👍
