I have a 21 year old DD.
She's been unable to go to university for two weeks due to stomach pain. She's just been diagnosed with endometriosis.
I've come home to find she has self harmed.
She has been asked to confirm if she is returning to her studies. She commutes.
She was a school refuser and is registered with the University as SEMH.
I've am extremely unwell myself and newly disabled. She is medicated and has a counsellor at university. I'm at the end of my tether. I've not a lot left in me.

I would suggest that if the self harm is new behaviour it would be worth getting a review of the medication done and it being addressed with the counsellor in a session. Usually self harm results from feeling overly numb or overwhelmed or it can be from misplaced anger/disgust. I think it's important to try and identify which of these has been the case for your dd in a gentle way as she may not fully understand it herself yet.

It sounds like she's done extremely well going from refusing school to going to uni - is she enjoying it or are there elements of it that are too much for her? Does she have a mh diagnosis and are the student support /disability service involved as she may need adjustments to help her manage better?

Where is her dad in this or what other support networks do you both have? Does anyone care for you or are you and dd both leaning on each other?

I would advise you to contact NHS Direct option 2 and speak to the mental health team. They'll give you some advice.

Rethink have a good mental health helpline and can give further advice.
