Poverty and mental illness

Lying here just thinking how much better my mental health would be if my housing situation was better. It's constant stress and cortisol release, and definitely makes my pre-existing mental health challenges worse.
Mental illness caused poverty, and poverty left me almost homeless; and now it's circular, as my rubbish housing situation is making it much harder to recover.
Is anyone else experiencing similar?

I've been in this position and it is absolutely shit. I understand that you can't do fuck all to change your housing situation sometimes so all you can really do is make the best of what you've got whilst waiting for the chance to move if that's even an option. If it really isn't then you need to find strategies to cope with how everything is now. Sorry it's not stellar advice but just wanted you to know you're not alone😊

Thank you for this. Nice to feel heard by someone who understands. It's very stressful. It's the reason I'm awake. I'm in bed (sort of, just a sofa bed) but can't sleep as I feel so stressed.
I know I'll be extra grateful once I'm in a better home. That's a silver lining.
