What do you do if you vomit your AD?

I'm being switched to sertraline next week.

Even though I'll be 13 weeks along at that time, I still suffer from nausea and vomiting.

I try to take my ADs in the morning, as the vomiting is usually in the evening, but sometimes something sets me off and I get sick at other times in the day.

Do you have to take another dose if you are sick say, an hour or two after taking the AD?

Hoping the sertraline helps!

I don't want to puke this AD when I've just started it.

i haven't thrown one up, because i'm off them this week switching between fluoxetine and sertraline.

should have asked consultant on friday.

I've been on ADs for years and my rule of thumb is - if sick within the hour take another (assuming you are sure you are not about to throw up again) - if sick after say 2 hours take half a tablet (assuming that some of the first one got into your system). And don't obsess about it - the ADs are not so powerful that two in one day or none one day is going to make a huge difference, but getting upset about it will IYKWIM

If sick within 30 minutes, take another.

If your drugs are in capsule form,don't be tempted to open the capsule and take half or mix it with anything as it can really affect the absorption of the drug from your gut.

I think it might be a capsule. The fluoxetine was. I should have asked her, but it didn't really come up and I won't see her again till 28 weeks unless there's a need - i.e., I get worse or those damn panic attacks don't ease up.

I'll aim to take it with breakfast and hope I don't encounter any really powerful smells for an hour or so after or do the ol' closepeg on the nose thing if DD2 needs a nappy change.

I started taking sertraline when I was 12 weeks pregnant. It made me feel sick and I had morning sickness wearing off. I found that taking it in the evening was better for it making me sick, but I think the morning sickness was starting to wear off then anyway.

I found that setraline helped a lot, within a few weeks things were much better.

It's sort of easing off here, too, Idris, but you know, I've never had morning sickness, even though I was ill with both girls.

It's always been evening sickness. And the vomiting nearly always in the evening with rare or no exceptions.

I hope it doesn't make me sick.

I'm REALLY hoping, because the fluoxetine when I was on the 40mg and even on the 20mg made it terrifically hard for me to surface in the morning, but other than that it was okay.

Just wasn't taking much after I fell pregnant and my panic attacks and depression were getting stronger, so consultant wanted to switch me to something I can stay on after the pregnancy and BF hopefully, as I have had PND twice as well.

My "morning" sickness was more evening sickness, although it would usually be early evening. I don't remember vomiting back the sertraline ever though.

I breastfed DD for 10 months while taking sertraline and it was fine. I didn't have any PND with her either.

What dosage are you starting with? I was on 50 mg at first, then up to 100mg I think.

Expat - I had pnd after birth of ds who is now 20 mths and have been on it all through this pregnancy except the last three weeks. Mine are in tablet form and did not make me feel sick, but I took them a little later in the morning than usual just in case! Maybe an hour after eating.
Also if you are taking any other supplements like vits. or folic acid Prob best to stage them through the morning.
I really hope they work out for you - I know everyone is different but they made such a big difference to the way I was feeling x

my scrip is for 50mg.

i'm hoping to avoid the big PND crash this time round and be able to continue to BF without being so harried by the black dog i can't really function, must less BF.

i'm just taking Sanatogen.

i had anaemia last time and had to tried to take iron supplements, but they so ripped my guts. even Spatone.

i couldn't cope with the side effects.

so if i develop it this time round i'm just going to have to change my diet.

haven't been well, though.

panic attacks and just that bad, dark, hopeless foggy feeling.

i got really bad SAD here over the winter, it's so much darker and wetter than i was used to.

and baby is due in october, so forewarned is forearmed is the plan of action here.

I know what you mean, Im so scared of becoming ill again after this birth, but at least I understand more about it this time and I will know the signs.
Im due to be induced on Teus and have started taking my sertraline again yesterday so it will be in my system after birth.
I really hope they lift you and you can enjoy this pregnancy at least we are coming into Summer, such as it is in Scotland

i'm going to be taking this or something for sure throughout this pregnancy and afterwards for a while.

my consultant got all my notes from my old consultant so she was able to get up to speed, and i signed some forms so she's free to chat as she wishes with my old consultant - whom she knows - small world here in Scotland, DD1's paed here went through training with her paed in Edinburgh!

Oh well at least youve got some good support if it all goes pear shaped (which it wont)but no doubt you will be worrying it will. Thanks for the good wishes - cant beleive she'll finally be here next week
