Link to last year’s thread

Hi again, I thought I’d start a new thread for this season of SAD 😭. It’s definitely starting to feel autumnal here 🥶.

If you’re new this year, please join us for tips to get through winter, chat and general moaning!

2023/24 SAD thread | Mumsnet

Hi again, I’m back for another year ☹️. I can’t see that anyone has started a SAD thread yet but today seems to be the day that it’s really kicking in...

Oh you’re so lucky! It’s raining so hard here that there is flooding in the city centre nearest us and the next village to us! I braved the rain to take the dog out and he turned round and went home 😂. Luckily he has agility tonight so will get his exercise.

Hope it cheers up soon for you. I also love green tea by the way... usually have at least one cup a day. It definitely gives me a boost.

I'm off to the outdoor pool again tomorrow...

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 16/10/2024 21:44

@Comedycook it hasn’t, it’s poured down all day and there’s more flooding! I have 2 cups in the morning, any more and I get all jittery and every bit of water drains out of me 😂.

Yesterday the skies opened and driving on the motorway was hideous. Today it is bright, I've done a bit of yoga, taken all my vitamins and been for a brief walk but I feel absolutely floored! I don't know why. Is it dread for the winter ahead? Even the thought of my Xmas holiday in the Canaries is failing to lift my mood or my energy.

itwasnevermine · 17/10/2024 13:10

Feeling more positive today, I can't get out in the sun but it's nice for it to be shining.

EmeraldRoulette · 17/10/2024 19:22

@lyingonthebeach i know the feeling, can’t get enthused about stuff that would be lovely any other time.

I walked 90 mins today in lovely weather. I felt great till I had to start concentrating on work! It’s definitely been a better day than the last day I posted though. (think that was Tuesday)

it’s like I really have to grab moments of good brain power as they don’t last long….and the cycle of inefficiency continues and gets on my nerves.

Comedycook · 18/10/2024 15:34

Was super busy and exhausted yesterday so missed swimming....went today instead. Was absolutely lovely with the sun beaming down. I closed my eyes and tried to convince myself I was actually in a pool in Greece 😂

Forecast for the weekend is ghastly... Rain rain rain and then it might rain some more. Haven't had to use my lamp much this week but will do tomorrow I'm sure. Keep forgetting my vitamins so must remember...maybe I need a pill box

Comedycook · 18/10/2024 15:39

Oh and I'm wondering if the nice weather these last couple of days has been St Luke's little summer. I only heard about it last year but apparently it happens around the 18th October.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 18/10/2024 17:04

We have flood warnings for the whole area tonight 😵 mostly because of an extra high tide.

I’m coming down with a cold and feel awful 🤒😭.

@Comedycook I’ve never heard of that!

Thanks! It was inevitable really as DH and DS have been ill all week 🙈.

Nice and sunny here today

Going for a walk later

Then dinner with a friend this evening

robinsrace · 19/10/2024 11:44

Hope you're all doing okay! It's been raining heavily here this morning but forced myself to go to parkrun and actually really enjoyed it. Brought some bird seed and fed the ducks and geese afterwards which was nice.

What's everyone got planned for the weekend? Not much going on here; the house is in need of a deep clean so going to get started once I've had a warm shower!

Hope you're feeling better @Idratherbepaddleboarding

I am actually sat in the garden, feeling the sun on my skin and enjoying a trashy novel. I will soon be cracking open a bottle of rose to embrace the sunny vibe while i can. I hope the sunshine finds its way to you all too.

Bliss...soak it all up! Sun is out too this afternoon here

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 19/10/2024 17:29

Thanks @robinsrace I feel dreadful 🙁. I had to go to Makro with DH to buy sweets for the tuck shop for our village Halloween party next week and he was dithering for ages, just pick some! I felt like I was going to pass out 🙁.

I did feel a bit better after some cold and flu tablets (and a McDonalds so I must have been hungry) so managed a nice walk in the sunshine with the dog and DH but now I feel crappy again.

Feeling more positive after a week of doing about 1000 steps a day! Sore but it was so so worth it

lyingonthebeach · 22/10/2024 08:50

@itwasnevermine That's good :). Movement does help, doesn't it? I know this but sometimes the grey is so oppressive and my mood so low that I can't force myself to move. Just writing that makes me realise how rubbish it sounds

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 22/10/2024 18:17

Glad you’re managing to get out and about @itwasnevermine! it’s been so warm here again, I’ve had shorts on!

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 24/10/2024 14:00

Today is a good day! It’s so warm I’m in shorts again, I’m off on annual leave and I got my results back from my first uni essay, 70%, which is (just) a 1st 🎉, not bad when I was last in uni 15 years ago!

Hello, I have a terrible cold! Not doing anything to look after my SAD except eat soup.

Thinking of sitting outside. I'm currently unemployed / in between things so it's actually a good time to focus on self care and routines when I can just get past the cold.

Doing mindless tasks in the meantime.

lyingonthebeach · 24/10/2024 16:58

@Idratherbepaddleboarding lucky you! We had bits of sun (better than nothing) but it's grey and chilly now.

@PamperGoals2024 I hope you feel better soon. I always blame colds/coughs at this time of year on SAD! Mindless tasks and TV deflect the SAD (sometimes).

lyingonthebeach · 24/10/2024 16:59

and congratulations and well done @Idratherbepaddleboarding

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 24/10/2024 18:02

@lyingonthebeach thank you! I told my friends our our group chat and not one person has even replied! Dunno why I bother with them…

Hope you feel better soon @PamperGoals2024 , we’ve all been floored with colds in this house 🙁. Do you have cold and flu meds? I always find taking them as soon as possible stops the bunged upness (if that makes sense!) from really setting in.
