2023/24 SAD thread | Mumsnet

Hi again, I’m back for another year ☹️. I can’t see that anyone has started a SAD thread yet but today seems to be the day that it’s really kicking in...

It's not great. I have a covid test in the car. I'm working up the energy to take the lift downstairs to the car!

Comedycook · 26/10/2024 17:31

Congrats on your essay @Idratherbepaddleboarding

It's a horribly grey day today and clocks go back tonight.... struggling this weekend I must admit.

I'm usually feeling better by January as we've had the shortest day and Christmas is over so I keep thinking I've just got to get through November and December....the worst months for me.

PamperGoals2024 · 26/10/2024 17:34

Urgh. Can't believe clock's change tonight. That's a kick up the bum to get up earlier.

I don't have Covid but this cold floored me. I need another week to feel right.

I'm meant to have the Covid and Flu jabs tomorrow, I will have to reschedule.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 27/10/2024 08:19

Thanks @Comedycook! Sorry the weather has been bad for you, we seem to be having endless sunshine (hope I haven’t just jinxed it!).

We were at a Halloween party last night until gone midnight and then I couldn’t get to sleep as I have tendinitis in both arms which is so painful. Then the dog woke me up at 2:40 and 7:20 and to top it all off, the kettle has broken 😭.

@Comedycook I share your feelings. Yesterday, the heavy grey and drizzle plus knowing the clocks were about to change really knocked me. But it's now sunny and bright here and I hope it is for you too. I'm going to spend all day outside to make the most of it (with a teeny sense of doom as 4pm dark approaches 😭........)

Yes thanks...nice and sunny here which is good. Good idea to get out...soak up the sun while you can! Really dreading the next few weeks though with it getting dark early... especially as I have a few appointments and ferrying round to do coming up...find it much more stressful in the dark and cold!

DropOfffArtiste · 27/10/2024 09:54

Glorious day here. Been for a run in the park to make the most of it.

PamperGoals2024 · 27/10/2024 13:30

I feel a little more human. That was awful!

It's a lovely day here. I'm going to run up to the dump in the car and then go to the park for a walk.

Comedycook · 27/10/2024 15:47

Sun sets at 4.40 this afternoon 😥

robinsrace · 27/10/2024 15:50

Hope everyone is doing okay! Flowers Hard weekend with the clocks going back but at least the mornings are a little brighter for a while. My anxiety is terrible at the moment and I'm consumed with worry but trying to keep as busy as I can

worldwidetravel2017 · 27/10/2024 16:26

Beautiful sunshine this pm

We explored Morton in marsh

PamperGoals2024 · 27/10/2024 16:33

Mission accomplished today. I'm in SE England and was sunny. Grey tomorrow I think :(

lyingonthebeach · 27/10/2024 17:44

I've just come home in the dark. I want to 😢

PamperGoals2024 · 27/10/2024 19:46

I was so confused today when it started to get dark. It also now feels extremely late. Its only 7.45pm!

However now we can count down until 21st Dec which isn't that long away. About 50 odd nights.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 27/10/2024 20:47

Another Halloween party tonight, I’m knackered now! It feels sooo late!

Yes I am always relieved once we are past 21 Dec...

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 28/10/2024 17:09

I can’t cope with the dark 😭😭😭 it’s only just past 5pm. I’ve been in such a bad mood today and I don’t know if it’s the clocks going back, just being tired, running out of green tea or the fact that the mini pill is giving me periods every 2 weeks and I’m on again (or a combination of all those things!).

😡FFS! The weather forecast promised some sun and lied. It's horribly grey and dark. The SAD light is on but doing nothing for me and I'm already full of doom at the thought of the so-called sunset. 😥

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 29/10/2024 16:56

Yup, just took the dog for his 4pm walk and it was already only half light 😭. The good thing is, all the other dogs are going out a bit earlier and he’s had a really good play with 2 different friends for the past 2 days and is now fast asleep! I’ve put my SAD lamp on for a bit to try and pretend it’s still daylight 😭.

I have spent the past few weeks, once it hit September, dreading the clocks going back and the dark evenings....I had hoped that the dread would be worse than the reality but sadly not...this year I'm finding it really tough

lyingonthebeach · 29/10/2024 17:21

@Comedycook @Idratherbepaddleboarding et al - sending hugs of solidarity. I can't find much else to say right now 😩.

FrancisSeaton · 29/10/2024 17:30

Can anyone recommend an nhs approved light box? Asked gp today but no help at all

DropOfffArtiste · 29/10/2024 17:45

I'm on full light therapy, vitamin D and went for a run this morning to get some daylight. My sleep was really disrupted. Anxious awake from 2am so hoping for some relaxing yoga and an early night tonight.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 29/10/2024 19:51

Yes I feel a bit better after an hour with my SAD lamp! I have a Halloween themed pole dancing class shortly so glad of the pick me up!
