Hi all,

I believe I have PMDD.

im 39 and for a week of every month (time of period) im literally on the floor. I’m really struggling and have suicidal thoughts often because of it :-(

im due on in 5 days and I’ve been crying all day feeling like I can’t go on.

i have two beautiful children and everything to live for and I can’t cope feeling like this every month.

does anyone have any advice or experience with this please?

many thanks x

So sorry to hear you're having a hard time. I've been there, no energy, aches and pains all over, suicidal thoughts. It can be very scary.

I went to the doctor with my concerns and she was very helpful. I've been put on cerazette and find it has really helped I don't have a period anymore. I feel like myself again and not tired all the time or having bad thoughts and crying and not knowing why.

You should write down how you are feeling during this time so you have it in front of you when speaking with the doctor.

I found when I got my period I didn't feel like that anymore and forgot how bad it was and would convince myself I could cope next month as it wasn't that bad.

I have pmdd and can sympathise it's horrible. I too was suicidal at times I used to be crying and praying for my period to start so I'd feel ok again. For the past 9 years I've been on Sertraline and I can honestly say it's been amazing for me. For the first time I had no idea that my period was starting except a surprise when going to the toilet. I tried fluoxetine 1st and that was terrible but I'm glad I tried the Sertraline. I had a random bad month recently but put that down to my age and I tried to reduce the Sertraline dose.....lesson learnt.

PLease don't suffer there is help available it might take a few months to find the right one though.

I should add that i've always suffered but came back with a vengence and some when I stopped having kids/breastfeeding

Thank you for your reply.

Could I ask how long the pill took to start working? I’m going to go to the doctors tomorrow I can’t go on like this anymore, would like to try the pill I go onto antidepressants.

Prozac. Totally changed my life. Low dose daily. It’s eradicated my PMDD.

@L0309 I can't really remember but think i few months. But it has really made a difference for me.

I tried the progesterone only pill for this and it didn't help. Combined pill may do. I'm now on citalopram.
