I started medication fluoxetine at 14 for OCD

Then been on/off over a number of 20 years (pregnancy ect)

I've been off for 4 years now and notice ive been in low mood with anxious episodes that whole time.

I've had therapy counselling cbt ect ect

Unpicked life know my issues. But all my most enjoyable care free times in life I've been on medication. All the rest i cope.

Research disproves the whole "chemical in balance" so why can't I thrive with out medication.

Don't get me wrong I hold a job /socialise ect but I don't thrive everything feels an effort without it.

I'm worried about the long term impacts of taking it though.

OCD is a lifelong condition. Medication helps it. No particular reason to know the exact mechanism but you know from personal experience that it does. If you had diabetes or epilepsy you would take medication lifelong so why not for OCD? It's just stigma against mental illness that prevents a person using a tool to help themselves.
