Please can somebody tell me their success story of increasing sertraline dose, I've taken 50mg for 5 years but after a doctors appointment from feeling low again decided to increase amount to 75mg. First day and I'm struggling, side effects from the first time taking it are back, can't sleep, anxious, can't eat.

Please tell me it gets better soon!

I went up to 100mg from 50mg and felt a bit ropey for 1 week then it started to improve. I hope you begin to feel better ASAP.

Thank you for replying I just can't wait for the moment when things feel like they're getting better

I increased recently from 50 to 75g. Did have side effects for the first couple of days but that was it. Have definitely felt the benefit of increasing the dose so I'm glad I stuck with it. Wishing you all the best!

Oh thank you for replying I really appreciate that, that's made me feel more positive. I'm going to stick with the increased dose and just look forward to feeling better again the doctors have given me sleeping tablets for a few days. Felt awful today really upset and down wondering how I'll manage, then had a better few hours now feeling down again. So up and down!

Hey guys,

I’m on day 2 of upping from 50mg which I was on for 6 weeks, to 100mg. So far not been too bad, but nervous things will start to go bad again.. how’s everybody feeling? Any success stories?

Helbelle75 · 01/07/2024 21:05

I was on 50mg for about 4 months, and was so tired to start with, but things began to level out. Then I started to feel anxious again, and my circumstances were difficult so it was upped to 100mg about 3 months ago. I can't recall feeling any particular side effects, and I certainly feel a lot better. Much less anxious and less ragey.

keffie12 · 01/07/2024 21:34

You do feel ropey when they go up like you do with anything new/extra you take

I'm on 200 mg per day taken in 4 50mg x 4 per day.

The reason is to keep my levels from dropping , and my mental health is significant even on them.

I've kind of learnt to manage my M.H. rather than it manage me. However, that doesn't mean my M.H. is OK cos it isn't. It never will be

I've been on the increased dose for a week now and definitely feeling a benefit from it, had a few days of increased anxiety and still slightly now but mood definitely better so will stick with it

Just out of interest has anyone suffered with insomnia as a result of taking sertraline. I have consistently been an 8 hour a night kind of a girl but since being on sertraline I wake up about 3am and am awake till 5am then I manage to fall back to sleep but given my alarm goes off at 6am for work I am progressively getting more useless and verging on a full breakdown (can feel it bubbling) because of exhaustion.

queenroo · 02/07/2024 08:54

Yes it's a common side effect but does get better, when I first started taking it I had terrible insomnia and had to take sleeping tablets but slowly it does start to improve until I was sleeping great again, same with the dose increase, it gave me slight insomnia again for about a week and now starting to sleep better again x

Hey everybody 👋

all your messages are so reassuring. I was so worried that I was going to have all the awful side effects when increasing but so far so good. Just feeling really tired but understand that’s my mind getting used to an increased dose.

I was just wondering if anybody had any similar situations as me when on 50mg. I started off side affects were bad with loss of appetite, headaches etc but nothing I couldn’t handle. Week 3-4 I had a few days of waking up feeling really happy, but after that until 6 weeks I just felt rubbish, low mood etc with no improvement. Do you think that was my body’s way of telling me I wasn’t on the right dose? Just nervous somethings going to happen again where my mood becomes flat and scared that these don’t work for me?

queenroo · 02/07/2024 17:09

50mg is still a really low starting dose so maybe speak to your doctor about increasing? I know people can take up to 200mg so you might need to go up to 75mg like me or 100mg. I'm sure it will work for you, it's a very good helpful drug to take

Hey @queenroo

I’ve been on the increased dose of 100mg for 4 weeks now. I have the odd jittery shaky day, but generally feeling good! Don’t get me wrong I’m not there yet, but starting to feel more like myself. I still struggle with social plans.. I like to not make too many at once otherwise it completely overwhelms me. I think allowing myself to realise that this isn’t a quick fix has helped me take the pressure off myself.

it’s totally normal to feel more anxious when increasing! I felt the exact same. I think our brains trick us too.. when we feel more anxious, I think we feel low and deflated because we have expected a miraculous personality make over from sertraline and we feel disappointed that we’re feeling low and anxious. Try to take everyday as it comes, and keep yourself busy! I had an awful shaking, jittery and low weekend not long after I increased but I’ve definitely seen improvements. Xx

I increased from 50 to 100.
Had no side effects on 50, but on 100 my body itches all over and is all consuming. I am also covered in bruises which the doctor thinks is down to the medication as all blood tests show no issues.
I dropped back down to 50 as I couldn't take the itching but my mood has fallen again.
Anyone had similar?

queenroo · 29/07/2024 15:37

Thank you for replying that's so reassuring. I guess I'm also worried because I've been on sertraline for 8 years at 50mg and I'm scared in case even 100mg wont work for me? I've probably googled too much and now driven myself to feel like I'll never feel better again!

How is everybody doing? I’ve felt quite anxious/overwhelmed the last few months (I’m on 100mg) just with business of life etc so I upped to 150mg about a week ago. It’s going fine, I’m just so exhausted/feel a little unmotivated - is this normal for increasing doses?
