So, the doctor and my partner virtually bullied me to take this medicine as Im suffering from very severe tinnitus (housebound and bedridden). what I want to know is how long you have to take it before it gives you an appetite? Because of the dreadful tinnitus Im barely able to eat, not eaten a meal since May 2022, but I still struggle to eat because of the anxiety the horrendous tinnitus is causing. Bizarrely though I now weigh 11 stone, Ive never been anywhere near this before and was wondering that just by taking the tablets its causing weight gain? I have a pot belly now and look pregnant although Im not as mid fifties and no sex for two years now. I just want to be able to eat normally again (and for this damned noise to stop). PS, Ive been on the tablets since October 2022.

Ive not taken Mirtazapine before so no personal experience, but that sounds terrible! I really hope you get some good help.

I know these types of drugs can take a while to take effect, but if you’ve been taking it for over 18 months with no benefit then I think you need to go back to the doctor and ask if there’s something else you can try (change dose, combine with something else, try something completely different). That’s a very long time to take something and still be waiting for an effect.

I've not taken that drug but wanted to offer my support as I have/do suffer from tinnitus. When I first got it it really affected my mental health but I have since learned to live with it and it doesn't bother me anymore. When I'm stressed I can hear it very loud. I've managed to get to the point where i can cope with it. If that medication isn't helping would you maybe consider trying something else.
