Husband wanted to commit suicide

Hello - I posted several months ago as my H packed his bags and left me on Valentines Day as he wanted to move back to his home town 2hours away.

To summarise: he missed his family and 2 friends, was bored in the place we lived, we had been TTC for 18months, he ended up buying a house back in his home town, we separated.

I always felt there was something more to it (as did MN posters) and he told me last week, via a letter, that he was so depressed he had frequent thoughts of hanging himself from the loft hatch since last summer :( he felt so isolated with wfh, sometimes only having me to talk to in person for weeks and not being able to just nip and see his family. I didn't realise at all. There were no signs. He seemed ok (until xmas when he told me he wanted to leave)

Has anyone experienced severe MH and their marriage able to come back from it? Thank you

Hi @ConfusedDippy I think it is fairly common to distance yourself, emotionally and/or physically from your loved ones when you are contemplating suicide. I definitely did that because I didn’t want anyone to be upset when I did it.
My partner and I are starting to rebuild our relationship now that I am over the worst of my MH crisis so I think it is possible if you both want it to work. We are treating each other with more kindness and consideration than we have for years. Have you thought about couples counselling if you are both interested in saving your marriage?

Oh gosh, that’s a lot to cope with, both for him of course but for you too. I suspect counselling would be a helpful next step, for the two of you individually and for you as a couple, if saving your marriage is on the cards for you both.

With care OP, has he given you any indication that he wants to go back to you or rekindle your marriage? Or was his letter an attempt to try to bring you some closure and clarity about the end of the marriage and his actions?
