Advice please … I am currently 7/8 weeks pregnant and suffering terrible anxiety and panic attacks which start from the moment I wake up until I go to sleep I can’t eat sleep or function much atm usually I am on 50mg of Sertraline as I have suffered most of my life but stupidly stopped it a few months back .. now the doctor is telling me she shouldn’t really reissue them to me as there are risks in pregnancy now I feel really guilty but feel I won’t cope without them !

I think its really common to stay on sertraline through pregnancy if needed. Any medication carries a small risk to baby , but I would weigh that against the effect of not sleeping and eating properly. I would ask to see a doctor again or speak to your midwife.

Your doctor needs to re-check. I have been on 200mg of Sertraline for 16 years, even whilst pregnant with my now 7 year old. All psychs and obstetricians agreed it was the safest in pregnancy and best to keep going with it.

Hey there,
It is much better for you to be on the medication and be well in your pregnancy. I think that the guidelines are that is ok for pregnancy.
Best of luck.

I'm currently pregnant and I'm on 50mg Sertraline. My doctor advised that some research suggests risks to the baby (I think in a very very small number of pregnancies it is thought that it has lead to heart defects), but that it's recommended to take it if you feel your health will suffer as a result of not being on it.

My Dr and midwife have both said that Sertraline is the one they'd recommend for people who need it during pregnancy.

Also, NHS website states that Sertraline can be taken during pregnancy!

Hope this helps ☺️
