I got prescribed some 3 weeks ago but was too freaked to take them so have had 3 weeks of sheer hell and insomnia - anyway saw GP today who gave me a different brand - sertraline and I have decided to take the plunge and take them - so have just popped my first one. I'm a bit worried about possible pukey type side-effects as it doesn't take much to make me puke! but hell, I've got to do something. Wish me luck.

best AD I ever took. worked wonders for me

I took sertraline and it so helped with my depression. I was completely in a fog and it helped to clear the fog away, so I could focus on things much more and was then able to help myself.

They did make me sick for the first couple of weeks, and it probably took that long for them to really start having an effect, but they were very much worth the effort.

I also found that taking them in the evening helped with the sickness and nausea. Hope they work well for you as well.

I hope it does the same for you

Good luck with it. I have had no pukey side-effects, but I find it makes me hot and sweaty (sorry, TMI), not that I've taken any for a while, but I did have them and took nearly two packets worth - one per day for however two months I suppose.

What were you prescribed before? I was wondering about getting a different kind as I'm not BF anymore, but it's all fairly manageable just now (ie, I can live with not feeling great).

I was prescribed these for PND and like you I was terrified to start taking them - but I took the plunge and was the best move I ever made. Took a couple of weeks to work 100%, but certainly allowed me to get back on track.

Oh and I didnt get any side effects (that I noticed anyway)

MrsDiorKeanuReeves · 04/04/2008 22:49

Every AD has side-effects, and they are different for each taker. I guess you have to get to the point where you decide that physical effects are better than mental one when not on them. Sertraline is pretty much the only AD I haven't been on but I am guessing it will settle down after a couple of weeks at the most, if it is anything like all the others.

I hope you have a good first night. I usually suffer a bit of insomnia and panicky feelings for a couple of days, but it does get better. Keep taking them and you will feel the benefits really soon.

Been on sertraline on and off for years. In fact just been prescribed it again today.

To me sertraline is a wonder drug, it is the only medication that has ever made me feel "normal"
