All antidepressants have similar side effects but each individual tolerates them differently.

My ds psychiatrist told him that escitalopram is a weaker AD - he started on it and then moved to sertraline. When he started he slept a lot and felt a bit 'manic' and was given diazepam but didn't need to use it in the end.

It's absolutely true that you have to give AD time to work. My ds is in a completely different place from when he started. He didn't stress about the side effects as his ocd/anxiety was so bad that anything would have been better.

You need to weigh up the risks v the benefits - and then if you take them, try to relax and not stress about the side effects as ultimately you will hopefully get where you want this be.

I was on it for a while. No side effects but it didn't do much for me. My psychiatrist said it was the AD that most people tolerated best.

My DH has just switched to this from Venlafaxine in the last 6 months. I think this is milder but he's not having the awful side effects Venlafaxine gave him, but it's helping.

It's the fifth antidepressant I've tried and it's the one that worked for me. I've been on it for about 12 years with fewer side effects than citalopram. I certainly don't feel as sleepy!
