I have just been diagnosed with CPTSD due to prolonged childhood abuse and trauma.
it is so overwhelming at the moment though I know it will get better.
Any advice or hand holds or positive stories would be greatly appreciated, especially regarding breaking generational trauma, no LO’s of my own yet though begining the family planning process in the near future. I am starting trauma therapy soon too, CBT but potentially EMDR if that doesn’t work.

I have had EMDR. It is hard but as long as you trust the person and give it everything it will be a game changer.

I also have C-PTSD and I am having a specific therapy. I have had lots of different types of therapy and the most important thing has been the right person at the right time. Good luck.

Hello lovely - you're being so brave, to get this diagnosis and to sit with the feelings and face up to the trauma, and you're being so resilient to see and believe that you will feel better soon. I believe that too - because I've been there myself. It's absolutely the case that c-ptsd can be treated and that trauma can be be unpacked and processed. It's so brilliant that you want to do this before having children and to break the cycle, it shows what a caring and kind person you are - whatever the trauma was there is a lot of hope for you. I am a big advocate of EMDR but it's also true that trauma based CBT (please find a specialist because ordinary CBT really isn't always helpful for trauma) and other trauma based talking therapies are also hugely beneficial. I think that with the right help, a trusting therapeutic relationship as the bedrock of this and with lots of self compassion that you can let go of the past of step into a happier and lighter and more stable life going forward xxx
